After a series of relaxing and fun activities, Secretary General Huang Chin-ying made the following announcement, "The United States recently imposed reciprocal tariffs against a number of countries, with Taiwan’s tariff rate at 20%+N. It is unquestionably a devastating blow to numerous export-oriented businesses. The team sent by the government to the United States to negotiate should thoroughly evaluate the situation and capitalize on Taiwan's advantages, to pursue the most favorable negotiation outcome. Furthermore, the issues related to referendums and recalls have finally come to an end. It is hoped that society will gradually return to its trajectory, and that the political sphere will avoid unnecessary internal disputes and steadily move forward, thereby igniting hope and creating new opportunities for Taiwan. Finally, a reminder to everyone: while focusing on your core work, it is equally important to cultivate diverse competencies to broaden your perspective and enhance your capabilities. This will enable you to adapt to a changing environment and make the most of your strengths." ![]() Next on the schedule was the keynote speech. First, Ms. Sun Ruei-suei presented a speech on the "Net-zero Buildings and Sustainability/Green Finance". The speaker began by stating that the building industry accounts for approximately 40% of worldwide energy-related carbon dioxide emissions. Building decarbonization is an essential part of the global net zero goal. This year's UN Climate Change Conference campaigned for "Building Breakthrough". The goal is to make "buildings with near-zero emissions and resilience" the new normal. The speaker went on to say that developing a carbon reduction path for net-zero buildings is inextricably linked to the promotion of renewable energy. In addition, the speaker mentioned "green finance" as a business approach that considers both environmental protection and a company's sustained profitability, positively influencing the environment. In terms of policy, it is envisaged that comprehensive packaging measures will become available, helping to establish a positive cycle in the construction industry. ![]() Next, Mr. Lai Jung-yi spoke on "A Carbon Sequestration Survey at Fu Jen Catholic University". The speaker began by stating that Fu Jen Catholic University is situated in the heart of the Wenzaizun Redrawing Area, which is undergoing accelerated development. The potential carbon sequestration conditions of the surrounding natural spaces are of the utmost importance to the management of regional carbon storage. According to survey data, Fu Jen Catholic University's average amount of carbon stored per hectare of trees is four times higher than Taipei City's total carbon sequestration from all community forests. In addition, soil carbon saturation and levels are 18 times higher than those of agricultural soils with 50% clay content. The speaker indicated that he wished to introduce the notion of carbon sequestration to senior high schools, laying the groundwork for the next generation. A carbon sequestration survey at Fu Jen Catholic University can help actively promote the school's ecological design while also improving the carbon sequestration environment. From the school to the community, all citizens will be educated about carbon sequestration. The goal is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 through collaborative efforts. ![]() Next, Mr. Tsai Kun-hsien spoke on "One Health Action Plan". The speaker began by stating that animal, environmental, and human health should all be included in the One Health Action Plan. The government has also established the "Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee", and created a national integrated pandemic prevention report, as well as organized the "One Health Workshop" to enhance prevention, monitoring, identification, and coping capabilities related to emerging infectious diseases, zoonotic diseases, environmental and foodborne diseases, and antibiotic resistance. This will enhance Taiwan's ability to address health threats and foster global collaboration. Problem definition, evidence-based policy, development policy, integrated education, preventive intervention, and service systems are all part of the One Health Action strategy. The speaker went on to say that climate change has significantly impacted vector-borne infectious diseases, increasing the risk of community outbreaks. He expressed his wish that everyone would prioritize their health and build resilience for preventing future pandemics. ![]() After the speech, Secretary General Huang Chin-ying presented a gift to the speakers on behalf of the foundation.
