His inconsistent decision-making has resulted in significant uncertainty about global economic developments. Faced with this precarious situation and external challenges, Taiwan should avoid self-destructive behavior while working to reach a consensus for collective progress. Furthermore, in the current era of rapid information dissemination online, erroneous information and false content are common. Everyone is reminded to be cautious and rational when receiving information to avoid disinformation and social panic. Additionally, in light of the frequent occurrence of extreme weather events worldwide, please maintain focus on climate change issues and increase risk awareness, thereby enhancing Taiwan's sustainability and safety through collaborative endeavors." ![]() Next on the schedule was the keynote speech. First, Ms. Yu Dao-ling presented a speech on the "Introduction to Social Housing: Using Kaohsiung City as an Example". As housing prices rose in densely populated metropolitan areas, the speaker stated that the government should implement social housing policies to meet the housing needs of disadvantaged and youth populations, thereby achieving housing justice and improving the housing market. Kaohsiung City's housing assistance policies included social housing, rental subsidies, low interest rates for first-time home buyers, and house hoarding tax. The speaker went on to explain the principles for social housing design in Kaohsiung including brightly lit and well-ventilated healthy homes, net-zero and smart designs, and disaster-prevention measures, and the integration of social welfare facilities. The speaker suggested that increased future social housing would pose challenges for operations and maintenance management. Initial investments were required for the construction of energy-efficient buildings, causing financial strain. As the elderly population increased, so did the demand for social housing for the elderly, all of which presented challenges. ![]() Next, Mr. Chou Yu-ching spoke on "Farewell Spring Lethargy: Vitality Plus!". The speaker first explained the causes of spring lethargy, which include rising temperatures in the spring following a harsh winter, faster blood circulation and metabolic rates, and increased oxygen consumption. He stated that the brain's oxygen supply would diminish, resulting in the emergence of allergies in the spring and an increased likelihood of inattention. Additionally, gastrointestinal health would be affected due to the unpredictable weather, which would allow pathogens and bacteria to enter the system. The significant climate variations in spring can also cause mood swings that affect sleep, making healthcare especially important during this time. As a result, providing health care during the spring season was critical. Therefore, the primary goal of spring health care is to dress warmly and pay attention to temperature changes, eat a well-balanced diet, exercise moderately, stick to a routine, and receive regular health screenings. The speaker emphasized the importance of mental health care, stating that actively participating in life and remaining optimistic would help boost immunity and prevent disease. ![]() Next, Mr. Yang Cheng-fan spoke on "Is It Sheer Nonsense: Medical Efficacy Assessment". The speaker first stated that ways to identify nonsense included professional certification, authority, credit, resume, etc. He did, however, provide counterexamples, including South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol declaring martial law through authority, well-known performers and politicians using personal credit to commit financial fraud, and licensed physicians posting false medical photos on the Internet. The speaker also mentioned Shanxi Aurui Biomaterials trading dead bodies, as well as the shocking cases of Shanghai Renji Hospital donating kidneys from premature baby girls to adults. In terms of more effective identification approaches, the speaker reminded everyone, based on the book "Poor Charlie's Almanac", that the most practical and wise approach would stem from rudimentary academic knowledge, an understanding of the main theoretical models from various disciplines to foster cross-disciplinary thinking, and the ability to think outside the box to master the basic concepts, leading to problem-solving approaches without constraints. ![]() After the speech, Secretary General Huang Chin-ying presented a gift to the speakers on behalf of the foundation. Then, attendees expressed and exchanged their opinions and views during the piggy hour. The May Archilife Public Policy Communion ended smoothly. |
