2024年8月份見識之旅縮影 ![]() For the study tour of August 3, 2024, Ms. Lu Ming-yun led 19 ARF interns and their parents on a trip to Hsinchu to experience fishermen's life in Xiangshan, Nanliao. In the morning, cycling to explore the fishing industry in Nanliao, everyone saw the original site of Zhuqian Port, Nanliao Fishing Port, and the expanded Hsinchu Fishing Port, and witnessed the bustling local fishing industry and economy. The refurbished and relaunched Poguang Marketplace for wholesalers always attracts tourists. Passing through a forest of horsetail trees, everyone walked to an outdoor observation deck at the tourist service center to look out at the beautiful scenery of the port and the Taiwan Strait. Showing old photos, the tour guide explained that the site used to be a popular beach. Although it has been replaced by reclamation and port construction, it has continued to be a popular attraction for both local residents and tourists. Before leaving, interns eagerly jostled each other to try out the thrilling two-story indoor slide, which is another way Nanliao continues to be a beloved destination. ![]() Pedaling through narrow alleys, everyone saw how the winding roads and unique architecture were used by early people to prevent strong winds and theft while adding a unique experience for modern riders. When visiting Wanchang Shipyard, everyone was awed by the massive boat frame. Vivid description, machinery and facilities within the shipyard, and old photos on the wall, helped everyone learn the shipbuilding industry's contribution to port economy and the complex process behind it. Interns also tried their hands at hammering nails, allowing them to experience the hardship and expertise of early shipbuilders. Leaving the shipyard, everyone cycled to Yongsheng Ice-making Factory. Within the factory, freezing air from large ice bricks used for storage of fishery products contrasted greatly with warm humid air outside. Large bags of crushed ice left for the interns allowed them to make snowmen and threw snowballs at each other, giving them an experience of winter in hot summer. ![]() After a seafood lunch, bicycles were returned, and everyone took a tour bus to Mingfa Set-net Fishing Ground. Despite missing fish auction, the tour guide introduced the principles and operational of passive fishing through on-site fishing equipment, and explained of auction method and live-fish handling. Next, at Zhuyu Aquatic Products, everyone saw the brackish water pond where mullets and shrimps are raised, and netted room where roes are sundried. A video showed the process of making mullet roes which are made especially delicious due to September wind of the area. In the cooking show that followed, everyone was impressed by the creamy umami flavor of mullet roe and sweet springy texture of fresh shrimps. The last stop was Xiangshan Wetlands, where a crab-viewing boardwalk allowed for observation of fiddler crabs and mudskippers. At sunset, everyone took a group photo and looked forward to the next tour. |
